Marika Hughes

Marika Hughes is a native New Yorker, a cellist, a singer, an occasional radio host on WQXR, a storyteller on The Moth and was an actor in Family Album (by Stew of Passing Strange) which premiered at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, summer 2014. Marika has performed and/or recorded with Whitney Houston, Lou Reed, Anthony Braxton, David Byrne, Taylor Mac and D’Angelo among many others. She has performed on The David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon shows as well as Saturday Night Live. Marika is a teacher and director for Young Arts  and for 10 years has been a volunteer for Triad Trust; taking her on repeated trips to South Africa and Haiti as a music and self-care educator. Marika happily leads her band Bottom Heavy whose debut album, New York Nostalgia, was released in early 2016 to very warm reviews.
